Side a: Chinatown Side b: Running with the automatics CAN 1980 Very nice powerpop by this canadian (Toronto?) band. I haven't found informations about this group.
Yes I believe they were from Toronto are based there at least. They also appear to be on a basement /Attic complication so there is at least one one track from them.
Popular Spies were in fact from Toronto. We recorded a single called International Girl which was included on that Basement Records compilation as well as the Chinatown vinyl 45. Trouser Press included Chinatown in their year end top ten independent singles for 1980. The late Ruth Polski booked the band to perform at Hurrah in New York opening for The Look (Gary Valentine’s post-Blondie band). Roman Bysh and myself, Graham Stairs, also wrote the songs Who Says Girls Don’t Rock and I’ll Be Your Alibi for the band, the B Girls. Later, Lucasta Ross from the B Girls and I formed the band Minutes From Downtown which recorded an EP for Capitol Records.
